Is this the right way to use stasis?

I was in the middle of a (MTG) game with a friend, and stasis(players skip their un tap phase) was played near the end of his turn, and then returned to his hand after my (would-be) un tap phase. Would the card's effect phase out in time for him to get his un tap phase?
